The Government of Punjab has decided to come down heavily on miscreants who attempt to purchase wheat at cheaper rates from other states and resell it in Punjab at MSP. Disclosing this today Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Lal Chand Kataruchak, said that MSP is meant for farmers and not for traders who cheat the farmers by first purchasing their food grain at throwaway prices and then make a huge profit by selling it again in the market at high prices. This is nothing but an organised loot of precious government funds and taxpayer money, he said.
The Minister added that the Director General of Police had been asked to put up Nakas all along the border of Punjab and check all wheat laden trucks attempting to enter the State. Wherever any unscrupulous element is identified, he shall not be spared, he said. He also appealed to all the farmers, NGOs and the general public to assist the State Government in identifying any person attempting to illegally sell wheat in the Mandis.
Commenting on the preparations for the forthcoming wheat season Kataruchak said that all arrangements are in place and more than 2300 Mandis are ready to receive the farmers from 1st April onwards. The state has received sufficient quantities of Bardana and the Transportation and Labour arrangements are also in place, he said.
Kataruchak appealed to the farmers to get dry ripened grain to the Mandi so that there is no time wasted in drying it before purchase. The government shall purchase every grain of wheat and the farmer shall not face any problem in the Mandis, he added.
