The General Category Welfare Federation PSPCL/PSTCL unit has immediately sought appointment of Chairman    General Category Welfare Commission at an early date so that the pending problems of the general category are solved.

A meeting of the federation was held at Patiala and attended by  Jaswant Singh Dhaliwal Chairman, Kuljeet Singh Rattol secretary general, Sukhpreet Singh finance secretary, Hargurmeet Singh vice president, Gurdeep Singh Tiwana, Gurmeet Singh Bagri, Kanchan Kumar, and Amit Kumar.

It may be mentioned that the Chairman   General Category Welfare Commission was constituted by the then state government in December 2021 by the then state government  to look after the interests of the general category. The present government has failed to appoint  the chairman and other supporting staff for the smooth functioning of the  last more than  one year.

The General Category Welfare Federation PSPCL/PSTCL unit has met different MLAs and submitted memorandums to them to take up the matter with the government to take steps for the functioning of the commission.

The Federation met the cabinet sub-committee appointed by the Punjab Government on April 5 this year and had detailed discussion on all the issues and they assured us that our problems will be solved after the Jullundur by-election and a meeting will be granted to discuss the various  issues. But till date nothing has been done and general category persons are deeply perturbed over it.

They also demanded s  not to  implement the 85th amendment in the state without following the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court  and to stop reservation benefits to the creamy layer amongst SC/ST employees.
