Bathinda to be free from drug abuse-District Administration
Bathinda- The district administration and police have intensified their efforts in making Bathinda free from drug abuse. Not only will the medicines shops operating in rural areas will be clamped down, albeit those selling drugs in clandestine mobile manner will also be wiped out.
Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Diprava Lakra and SSP Bathinda Naveen Singla said this while addressing meeting of officers of civil and police administration especially convened today to discuss strategy for dealing with drugs. They added that teams of drug inspectors and Station House Officers (SHOs) have been constituted that will work at the village level and daily submit report of their activities to the office of Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police. The government is already running Mission Tandarust Punjab with special focus on eradicating drugs and drug addiction. This exercise will be most important part of the mission.
Besides this, vigil has been increased in the border areas. An eagle’s eye will be kept on those drug traders who after evening clandestinely enter into the Bathinda territory from Haryana or Rajasthan to sell drugs. All the police officers have been directed to not sit in their offices after 3 pm. After 3 pm an officer should either be conducting checking or be amidst people creating awareness on drug abuse.
Similarly, the government has roped in retired army personnel and have appointed them as Guardians of Governance. These Guardians of Governance act as link between government and the people at grass root level. Presently 77 GoGs are appointed in Bathinda district, who will also contributed in this exercise. Nehru Yuva Kendra and Youth Services department has also been directed to ensure that youngsters from youth clubs join this movement. Nehru Yuva Kendra has 160 clubs in district running under it. The Nehru Yuva Kendra will carry out awareness activities in these clubs and daily give their report to DC office.
ADC (G) Sakshi Sawhney, SDM Bathinda Balwinder Singh, SDM Rampura Subhash Khatak, Assistant Commissioner (grievances) Babbandeep Singh, SP traffic Gurmeet Singh, SP city Gurmeet Singh and heads of the different departments were present.
