BJP appoints RSS worker, former AISSF leader, retd army officer on key posts amid Punjab elections

“In June 2021 prominent Sikhs joined BJP .Those who joined the party are former All-India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Harinder Singh Kahlon, advocate Jagmohan Singh Saini, (Patiala), advocate Nirmal Singh from Mohali, Kuldeep Singh Kahlon (former AISSF) from Gurdaspur, former Guru Kashi University VC Jaswinder Singh Dhillon and Col Jaibans Singh from Patiala” said a spokesperson of BJP.

Now, BJP Punjab has appointed strategic analyst Col Jaibans Singh (retd) is media adviser , Kuldeep Singh Kahlon as its panelist for debates. Harvinder Singh Kahlon of Jalandhar as the state spokesperson (TV), Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon of Amritsar as the state co-convener of its intellectual cell, Nirmaljit Singh of Mohali, Jagmohan Singh Saini of Patiala, Kavita Sarowal of Patiala and Jeevan Mahajan as special invitees, Sukhpal Brar of Faridkot and Baljinder Singh Dakoha of Batala as co-convenors of the panchayati raj cell.

“By appointing this new set of office-bearers, the Punjab BJP has vested a high-level responsibility on all prominent Sikh faces of the state who were taken into the party fold on June 16. This move indicates the seriousness with which the party is pursuing its policy to create a pan-Punjab signature after its break-up with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD),” said a statement issued by the BJP.

Colonel (Retired) Jaibans Singh, a reputed analyst of Indian defence and security affairs, has an abiding interest in issues related to national security, internal security, geopolitical developments and defence strategy in the context of the nation. His area of specialty encompasses Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and China. Jaibans Singh contributes to a large number of newspapers, defence magazines, news agencies and web sites.

Jalandhar resident Harinder Singh Kahlon headed All-India Sikh Students Federation and remained one of the most important over-ground leaders of the Sikh radical movement in 1985-86, joined the BJP , in mid June 2021. Kahlon became AISSF convener in September 1984, after its president Bhai Amrik Singh was killed in Operation Bluestar and other top leaders were arrested. He was at the centre of activity till 1986, when he was arrested.

Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, who joined the BJP in mid June 2021 , remained honorary secretary of the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) .He was dismissed from the post after he joined BJP. CKD strongly condemned Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon for joining the political party, which they said has been ‘anti-panth’ and ‘anti-farmers’.

Kavita Sarowal is a doctor by profession and is running a diagnostic centre in Patiala. She is a RSS worker, belongs to a reputed Saronwala family of Patiala.
