College of Pharmacy, Bela observe Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day was celebrated in the  Amar Shaheed Baba Ajit Singh Jujhar Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, Bela, Rupnagar, (An Autonomous College) on the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.” The program was graced by the College Director, Dr. Shailesh Sharma, who emphasized the importance of ensuring equal rights, opportunities, and empowerment for women and girls in every field of life. He told that more than 80% of college staff comprises of ladies and our college attract more girl students as compared to boys.  He stressed that empowering women is not just about equality—it is about building a stronger, brighter, and more progressive society for all.

The event was organized by the “Care and Cure Club” in collaboration of Women Cell and IT Cell. As part of the program, a special survey cum awareness was conducted to assess present situation of womenfolk in diverse fields of society covering students, housewives, professionals from academia, industry, medicos, pharmacists and administration.

More than 200 respondents (120 women – 60% and 80 men – 40%) was asked to answer the prepared questionnaire consisting of share of women in household responsibilities, studies especially higher studies, their carrier selection, safety while travelling and work places etc. The findings revealed important insights into gender equality:82% respondents agreed that women bear a greater responsibility for household work. On the issue of safety, 95% of women reported that they do not feel safe while travelling alone at night. In education, 87% respondents agreed that girls are encouraged to pursue higher studies. However, 55% acknowledged that families still invest more in boys’ careers compared to girls.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, Dr. Satnam Singh, Coordinator Care and Cure Club, highlighting the commitment of the institution to continue promoting equality and empowerment for women.
