Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said the Punjab Congress leadership realized it could not take on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and was now desperately trying to save its sinking ship by reaching out to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh but this would not have any effect on the election result.

Talking to reporters after addressing an impressive rally of the Youth Akali Dal organized under the leadership of Malwa Zone 2 President Advocate Satbir Singh Khatra in Anaj Mandi here, Majithia said that earlier too the Punjab Congress had used the name of the former Prime Minister for drafting of election manifesto on the eve of the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab. He said now the Congress was again reaching out to Dr Manmohan Singh hoping he would correct the party’s downslide in the State. “This however is not possible simply because the people realize the former PM was misused to make promises which are yet to be implemented. People are not ready to trust the Congress party as it has not implemented even one page of its election manifesto”, he added.

Responding to a query about boycott of SIT by the Akali Dal,  Majithia said that SIT members are in fact toothless and they are being directed by the Chief Minister and his coterie to act against particular persons. Citing case of former MLA Mantar Singh Brar, Majithia questioned how it was possible for a public figure to not to make calls to his constituency and people when a problem arose. He said the Congress government was setting a wrong precedent by booking leaders of opposition on basis of phone calls. He also questioned that if such be a basis, can a case be registered against the CM for directing the officials to provoke nurses to jump from the rooftop in Patiala?, he asked.

On attack of police officials in a police station in Ferozepur, Majithia said total lawlessness was prevailing in the state. He said on one hand Congress leaders were threatening police officers , audio recordings of which have become viral, and on the other Congress MLAs were complaining against the government machinery for not giving them due respect.

Commenting on the large number of protests in the Home turf of the Chief Minister which had become the dharna capital of Punjab, Majithia said that it is most unfortunate to see that the Congress had promises regularization of services to the different government employees including teachers, nurses and others but now police force was being used against them to silence their voice even if they are staging silent protests.
