CUPB celebrated 400th Prakash Purab  of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

To commemorate the 400th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Guru of Sikhs, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized Webinar on ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur: Savior of Dharma’. Baba Satguru Ram Singh Chair established at CUPB conducted this programme under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The keynote speaker of this Webinar was Prof. Harpal Singh Pannu, Chair Professor, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Chair. Faculty & students from different institutions attended this webinar.

In his Welcome Address Prof. Kuldip Singh, Chair Professor, Baba Satguru Ram Singh ji Chair, shared that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji travelled long distances to different parts of the country to preach the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and to spread the message of service towards humanity with selfless way. He emphasized that the preaching of the ninth Sikh Guru is relevant for all times & it will continue to guide our society to rise above their religious differences and live together peacefully.

Keynote Speaker Professor Harpal Singh Pannu, talked about the initial life of Tyag Mal (the name with which Tegh Bahadur was known in childhood) and highlighted that after seeing his valour in a battle against the Mughals in Kartarpur, Guru Hargobind gave him the name of Tegh Bahadur (Mighty of the Sword). He underlined the incidence of finding the ninth Guru at Baba Bakala by Makhan Shah Lubana as an important event in the history of Punjab, India, and humanity altogether. Prof. Pannu pointed out that due to the commitment towards the service of humanity, Guru Tegh Bahadur expressed his happiness through a letter on of the birth of his son and named him ‘Gobind Rai’. He highlighted that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur is popularly known as ‘Hind Di Chadar’ for his brave sacrifice to protect the religious freedom of Hindus from Mughal oppression and to save the society from injustice & cruelty. Prof. Pannu called Guru Tegh Bahadur as the ‘Saviour of Dharma’ of entire universe for righteousness, truthfulness, and true service towards the humanity.

Professor Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, in his Presidential remarks paid a tribute to the revered Guru whom he called as one of the great saints of the sacred land of India. Prof. Tiwari urged the participants to follow the footprints of the Great Guru to live a meaningful life and contribute towards the progress & growth of the nation, which is the need of the hour.

CUPB celebrated 400th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Dr. Ashwani Kumar from CUPB Department of History coordinated during the programme and introduced the keynote speaker. Towards the end, Dr. Vikas Rathee presented the vote of thanks.
