Providing medicines to the needy is our worry for which we are burning night oil so that required drugs can reach every nook and corner of the district. This was disclosed by Deputy Commissioner M. K. Aravinda Kumar in a press statement.
He said that special arrangements to provide medicines in emergency are already in place wherein drug stores are open 24 hours inside every government or private hospital.
“Apart from this, we have allowed shops to open on certain days (5, 9 and 13 April) when people with medical prescription can buy medicines from 6 am to 10 pm,” he said.
He reiterated that all the complaints, suggestions and information received at the district control room phone numbers are discussed at length everyday.
“After making the public at convenient to access ration, milk, LPG, curfew passes we are now fully geared up to provide medicines to the patients undergoing various treatments across the district,” the DC said.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that since he is randomly visiting chemist shops situated in all parts of the district any misinformation, false complaint and unnecessary phone call at Control Room will be dealt with an iron hand.
Drug Inspector Harita Bansal said that in total there are around 750 chemist shops in the district out of which 402 falls under her area—Gidderbaha and Malout. “We are constantly in touch with the chemist associations and patients too are directly getting in touch with us,” she said, adding that two volunteers are also offering home delivery to public in emergency circumstances.
Three shops each in Malout, Badal and seven shops in gidderbaha remain open—turn by turn. Public is made aware about the opening of shops and its timings through publicity vans, control room and social media, she further said.
Drug inspector deployed in Muktsar Omkar Singh said that few medicines, like insulin, which are more in demand, will be allowed to purchase in bulk by wholesalers from nearby districts before the opening of shops on April-5.
