DC Patiala declares whole mini secretariat as SUP free zone

Under the “Swachhata hi Seva” campaign Patiala Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit has declared his office and the whole mini secretariat as “SUP (Single Time-Use-Plastic) free zone”. While issuing a letter to all Public offices which falls under the jurisdiction of Municipal corporation Patiala to declare themselves “Single Time-Use Plastic Free” by 2nd October, 2019, he said” All kindly of plastic and thermocol disposables are hazardous to the environment and health because it is neither decomposable nor can it be burned. AC (UT) T Benith IAS, Programm Coordinator of  Swachhata  Bhart Abhiyan Amandeep Sekhon and Manpreet Bajwa were present on the occasion.

DC informed that a resolution to ban all kind of “Plastic and Thermo col disposables” has been passed last Friday in House Meeting of Municipal corporation Patiala by which all kind of Plastic and Thermocol disposables like Polythene bags, Non-Woven Bags, Cups, Plates, Glasses, Spoons, Straws, Banners (Flex) less than 100 micron thickness, Plastic bottles (Water and Other Beverages) less than 200ml etc. were banned completely and the violators can be fined heavily. He also appealed to public that ‘People should carry their own cloth bags while shopping and also keep the cloth bags in their Two Wheelers and Four Wheelers”.

On this occasion Modern Senior Secondary School’s principal Madam Tripatjit Kaur has declared their school a “Plastic Free Zone.’’

Swachhata hi Seva

The Prime Minister has called upon the nation to begin a campaign, Swachhata Hi Sewa, Cleanliness is Service, from 15th September 2017 to Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2017. During his Mann Ki Baat address on August 27, 2017, he called upon people to create an environment of cleanliness in the entire country so that the coming 2nd October, the third anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Gandhi Jayanti, can be celebrated in a befitting manner. He urged all NGOs, schools, colleges, social, cultural and political leaders, corporates, government officials, Collectors and sarpanches, to accelerate Swachhta activities during the September 15 – October 2 period.
