Deputy Commissioner Patiala, Dr. Preeti Yadav, conducted an inspection of traffic congestion hotspots in Rajpura city, including the areas around Gagan Chowk, GT Road and Tahli Chowk. Taking serious note of the situation, she issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure smooth traffic flow and directed officials to implement immediate measures for decongestion.
Dr. Preeti Yadav instructed SDM Rajpura, Avikesh Gupta, to hold a meeting with representatives of nearby industries to devise a plan for creating dedicated lanes for trucks and heavy vehicles servicing the industries. This initiative aims to reduce the disruption caused by such vehicles on public roads and streamline their movement to fixed areas.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the need for local traffic police to actively regulate traffic. She directed them to review peak traffic hours and suggested rescheduling and relocating the bus stop slightly forward toward Chandigarh Road. This shift is expected to reduce congestion caused by daily commuters boarding buses at the current location.
During her visit to Tahli Chowk, Dr. Preeti Yadav directed Municipal Council authorities to remove encroachments obstructing the roads. She stressed that fruit and vegetable vendors must operate from their designated locations rather than occupying road space, as encroachments significantly contribute to traffic bottlenecks.
SDM Rajpura Avikesh Gupta and local traffic police assured the Deputy Commissioner of swift action to address the identified issues. They committed to taking steps to clear roads and implement solutions to decongest Rajpura city, including the busy Gagan Chowk area.
