Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, in collaboration with Faculty of Performing Arts and Media, Cultural Club, of Desh Bhagat University celebrated World Theatre Day. The World Theatre day was coined in 1961. This day was established to highlight the importance of the theatre in society. For the event, the University invited a renowned senior Punjabi film actor Malkeet Rauni as chief guest of the event. Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of the University, Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor, of the university and RJ Sangmitra were special guests of the event.

Malkeet Rauni shared his experience of theatre and films with the students. He also told that on 29 March 1935, the first-ever Punjabi film “Ishq-E-Punjab Mirza Saheba” was released in the Navrang Talkies of Lahore. He added that cinema and theatre are two different streams and their acting patterns are also different but are interlinked. He compared acting to various roles we play in our life. He added that in cinema, when you give a take or shot, you have the option of a second take or many retakes, but in theatre you have to perform in one single shot, just like in real life. In life, like theatre, there are no retakes and your single decision can take you to the right direction or on the wrong path.
