The dharna is led by SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal. They fail to give any memorandum to the district administration about the alleged atrocities on akali workers, on which issue they planned a dharna, as it’s a weekly off, today.

Akalis led by Harinder Pal Singh Chandumajra group reached in reasonable numbers. Other groups from Patiala urban, Patiala rural, Samana, Shutrana, Rajpura, Nabha etc failed to gather impressive numbers of akali workers.

Patiala akali dal is divided into many groups-Chandumajra group, Kohli group, Rakhra group, Juneja group, Bazaz group, Vishnu Sharma group fail to impress the show in their home town.

Sukhbir Singh Badal today said Congress legislators were oppressing people even as he warned police officials that action would be taken against them if they did not give justice to the people when a SAD-BJP government was formed in the State.

SAD President said never before had such a situation occurred in the State when all illegal works were being done by legislators of a ruling party. He said the situation was such that Congress legislator Madan Lal Jalalpur has even ordered the police to pick up women folk from their village in Takhtupura and had got a false case  registered against 42 villagers. Asking the Patiala SSP to act in the matter and withdraw the false case immediately, Badal said once an Akali – BJP government was sworn in the State it would take action against all police officials responsible for registering false cases against people.

The SAD President said Congress leaders in the chief minister’s home district were not only running illegal mining and illicit liquor operations but were also taking monthlies from drug smugglers. “All these leaders, including legislators, will be held accountable for their acts”, he added.

Badal also announced that the SAD would not allow the Congress government to take over Shamlat land to hand it over to their favourites at throwaway prices.

He was also handed over a memorandum by a delegation of the Muslim community which appreciated his stand to include Muslims under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Badal said he had made it clear in parliament and continued to uphold the view that Muslims should not be excluded from the CAA in keeping with democratic and secular principles as well as the message of Guru Sahiban who preached ‘sarbat da bhala’.

Speaking at the dharna, senior leader Prem Singh Chandumajra said it was unfortunate that Patiala MP Preneet Kaur had not spoken up in favour of the oppressed but had defended legislator Jalalpur in the Takthupura atrocity case.

Senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia said there was complete lawlessness in the State because Congress leaders including ministers like Sukhjinder Randhawa were patronising gangsters like Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. He also questioned the claims of ‘khazana khali’ of finance minister Manpreet Badal who was using 27 air conditioners and 17 geysers at his official residence.

Former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra announced that in case all false cases were not withdrawn the SAD would further intensify its agitation.

Others who attended the function included Baldev Singh Mann, N K Sharma, Harmail Singh Tohra, Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpur, Varinder Kaur Loomba, Harpal Juneja, Satbir Singh Khattra, Charanjit Singh Brar and Harwinder Singh Harpalpur.
