Dr. Attwal of World University hands over the Headship of English Department to Jaspreet Kaur

Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Head Department of English at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib today handed over the Headship of the Department to Jaspreet Kaur, next in seniority to her in the Department. Dr. Attwal congratulated the new Head and thanked Dr. Swaraj Raj, the former Head and Professor Emeritus in English for his constant guidance and support. She expressed her gratitude towards Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar, the Pro-Chancellor of the University for his trust in her capabilities, throughout her tenure. Dr. Attwal shared that the successful completion of her tenure i.e. from 2011 to 2017 as Incharge of the Department and from 2020 to 2024 as Head, is owed to the support of the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Prit Pal Singh, who has always showed his eagerness to uplift the Department. She added that Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Faculty of Languages and Dean Academic Affairs has undoubtedly proved to be a strong pillar of the Department. She expressed her hope that the faculty of the Department will continue working dedicatedly under the able guidance of Jaspreet Kaur.
Jaspreet Kaur, the new head of the Department also shared her gratitude towards the University authorities and Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal for entrusting her with this new responsibility. She said that she will try her best to cross the benchmarks already established by the former Heads. She shared that Department is known for its discipline, punctuality, hardwork, innovative teaching techniques, dedication to the students and community, and above all for being a good team. She informed that during the tenure of Dr. Attwal, the Department has established three laboratories namely English Language Lab in 2013, Literary and Film Studies Lab in 2021 and a New Media Studio in 2024. The Department is successfully running BA Honours/Major in English and MA English with good number of students. She added that currently seven scholars are registered for their PhD Degree. Besides these scholars, the University has already awarded PhD degree to five scholars of the English Department.

Jaspreet added that the Department proudly boost of more than hundred research publications, more than fifty online content creation and around fourty expert talks by the faculty. The faculty of the Department have presented papers in many national and international conferences. She affirmed her commitment to keep facilitating the faculty for more and more research endeavours.
