UP Power Corporation Chairman has called Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP for table talks on 07th May with UPPCL Management ending the five month long stalemate.

Shailendra Dubey convener Vidhyut Karmchari Sangharsh Samiti demanded that UPPCL management  should  withdraw all victimization actions for a conducive atmosphere of talks.

On Monday  Shaileder Dubey along with other trade union leaders sat on chain fast . During  relay hunger strike after  midnight the health of Shailendra Dubey deteriorated and sugar level was  deteriorating very fast, coming down to 63 along with high blood pressure at 200. The twitter messages about health problems were sent to the Prime Minister, UP chief Minister and UPPCL management. However Dubey ended his fast today as per schedule  after  completing chain fast  along with other engineers and employees after a new batch started chain fast.

The Vidhyut Karmchari Sangharsh Samiti in Uttar Pradesh has been organizing sequential hunger strikes and protests to oppose the privatization of two power distribution companies Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal  and  reinstatement of contractual employees.

V K Gupta informed that the issue is significant for both employees and consumers, and its resolution depends on meaningful dialogue between the government and employee organizations.

The committee was of firm view that  privatization will jeopardize job security for electricity employees and lead to higher electricity tariffs for consumers. Citing the failure of Torrent Power’s privatization model in Agra, the committee highlighted a reported loss of Rs.274 crore. The committee alleges that agreements from 2000, 2018, and 2020, which promised no privatization without consulting employees, have been violated.

A seven-day sequential hunger strike began on May 2 involving electricity employees from Uttar Pradesh, with participation of other state constituents. Earlier on Labor Day, electricity employees organized large-scale bike rallies across the state and in Lucknow on May 3. . The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) has announced a nationwide strike on June 26, 2025.

The committee has warned that if the government does not reverse its privatization decision, an indefinite work boycott will begin on May 29, 2025, potentially disrupting power supply. .
