Out of 30+ applicants, former IAS, CBSE chairperson appointed as PSEB chairperson

To strengthen the school education , Punjab government has issue an appointment letter of Dr Satbir Bedi a 1986 IAS officer of AGMUT cadre as chairperson of Punjab school education board.

Dr Satbir Bedi has been selected out of almost 30+ applicants by the three member selection panel headed by the chief secretary, principal secretary education and vice chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

Daughter of former DGP Uttar Pradesh Dr BS Bedi (IPS of 1961 batch) Dr Satbir Bedi had done her post graduation in Psychology in first division and P.hD in Physilogy(orgl Behaviour).

Out of 30+ applicants, former IAS, CBSE chairperson appointed as PSEB chairperson. Dr Bedi had a vast experience in the school education department during her career. She remained joint secretary (from 09/10/2014 – 22/01/2017), additional secretary (from 22/11/2018 – 23/07/2019) , secretary (from 24/07/2019 – 26/04/2020) Human Resources Dev School Education & Literacy, chairperson National Council for Teacher Education, member secretary Women & Child Development National Commission for Women (from 23/01/2017 – 22/11/2018).

Dr Satbir Bedi had also gone to UK at attend 60 days  Foreign Training program -Cambridge Leadership And Strategic Thinking Programme during her career.

While serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resource Development she had been given an additional charge of Chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2014.

Later even a search-cum-selection committee set up by the ministry had proposed Bedi’s name as the top choice for the post of CBSE chairman. The panel of names shortlisted by the committee was sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, the DoPT had sent back the file raising queries and seeking some clarifications on Bedi’s eligibility. Due to less years of experience in educational administration, Bedi’s name was dropped at that time citing possible ineligibility as per the criteria.

When contacted, Dr Satbir Bedi said “ we will work together for the improvement and enhancement of the education in Punjab.”
