Chandigarh-“Stones in gall bladder is one of the most common ailment, affecting about one-tenth population in North India. It is seen among young population of working age and is about 5-time more common in females than males.”

Addressing a press conference here today, Dr. K.S Dhillon, head – advanced laparoscopy and GI surgery at Max Hospital said that from the past two decades, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy was the gold standard for gall bladder stone removal but it is marred by the chances of post-operative hernia formation, wound infection and chronic pain in some patients.

Now the most advanced procedure for gall bladder removal is Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) procedure in females, wherein there are no stitches, no scars, no chances of hernia formation and negligible pain, remarked Dr Dhillon.

It is the most physiological procedure for gall bladder removal as it maintains the pristine condition of the abdomen.
