The Bharatiya Janata Party president Jagat Prakash Nadda today made an impassioned plea to Punjabis to give BJP and Narendra Modi a chance to serve them. “Power is not our ultimate goal, it is just a means to serve the people”, he told a largely attended public gathering at Nurpur Bedi on Saturday.
Nadda was here to campaign in support of the party candidate from Rupnagar constituency Iqbal Singh Lalpora. Earlier .
He said the BJP was a time-tested party, which has provided neat and clean governance at the centre and in states like Uttar Pradesh, Himachal and Haryana. Besides, he added, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had special fondness for Punjabis and Sikhs. “Give Modi Ji a chance”, he urged people.
The BJP president said, Narendra Modi had got the Kartarpur Corridor opened which was a long pending demand of Sikhs for the last seventy years. He said it was Narendra Modi who ensured that the culprits responsible for 1984 anti-Sikh riots were punished.
He said, not only had Congress been defending the culprits but even justifying the riots. “Their leaders would say, when a big tree falls, the earth shakes”, he said, while adding, those responsible for the riots are now cooling their heels in Tihar Jail.
Nadda said, it was the Prime Minister Modi who had declared that December 26, the martyrdom day of two younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh will now onwards, every year, be observed as “Veer Bal Diwas” in memory of the great sacrifice Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, who laid down their lives to defend faith.
He said, Prime Minister Modi had taken personal interest in getting Durbar Sahib registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), which will enable millions of devotees living abroad to directly donate to Golden Temple. Besides, the items consumed in ‘langar’ had also been exempted from the GST.
Asserting that the BJP government will work for peace and harmony, he said, the Congress had always played divisive politics and pushed the state into the fires of terrorism.

The BJP president said, state needed development for generating jobs. Drawing a comparison, he said, if Haryana can attract investment and generate jobs, why cannot Punjab. The only reason is that the rulers here so far did not have any intention to serve people.
He pointed out how the youth of the state were pushed into drugs due to the callous indifference and at times connivance of the rulers. “We promise a drug free Punjab”, he said, while pointing out, Punjab has always been known for valour and courage and it should always be remembered like that.
Nadda also took a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party claiming to provide an honest government. He pointed out, their own leaders had come out with revelations that they had sold party tickets. “They are not even in government, which in any case they will never be, and they have already started taking money”, he remarked, while cautioning people against their fake claims and false propaganda.
