A two-week Online Refresher-Course in Commerce, Economics & Management Studies was organized by UGC HRDC, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar under the dynamic leadership of worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu from Sept 07, 2022 to Sept 20, 2022.
This national-level Course under University Grants Commission & Human Resource Development has been very-well-organized by the Course-Coordinator Dr.Jasveen Kaur from University Business School(UBS), Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, with the underpinning support of Director-HRDC-GNDU Prof. (Dr.) Sudha Mahajan, with the aim to provide platform to in-service teachers for their continuous development and skill-enhancement.
The thrust areas of this course has been to provide knowledge regarding the contemporary domains of Management like Data Analytics, Tourism & Hotel management, Quality Assurance, etc. along with the basic domains of Finance studies, Commerce, Statistics, etc.
The course contents and lectures had been designed to equip university and college teachers to adapt to innovative teaching pedagogy into nine different elements as learner role, strategies, enablers, practice, culture, policies, educator role, learning outcomes and pedagogical beliefs.A plethora of subject matter experts across various sub-themes of this Faculty Development Course and national & international Renowned Academicians in their field had been invited in this national-level teachers’ training course by Dr.Jasveen Kaur, this course-coordinator.
Eminent Resource Persons from the best institutions and universitiesof Pan India (from North, South, East, West &also Central India) including IIMB, IIML, IIMR, IIMJ, IITD, IITR, I.C.S.S.R., N.C.E.R.T and also from Abroad (University of South Australia)enlightened the participants with their rich experience and vast knowledge. All the lectures had been very enriching, interactive and precisely relevant in bringing back the participants to basics in their domain alongwith updating and providing them knowledge about contemporary issues in the field of research and incremental adaptations/improvements of well-known pedagogical practices in commerce, economics & management studies.
Participants in this course also represented Pan India as teachers from various colleges, institutions and universities of Jammu &Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra,Karnataka, and TamilNadu took part in the course. The focus of the course was on holistic development where the participants learnt about general topics as well as advanced topics of research and teaching.
The course had been commendably framed by Refresher-Course-Coordinator Dr.Jasveen Kaur with the vision of Prof.Sudha Mahajan, in such a manner that it facilitated and encouraged participants to do quality research and teaching for professional development without compromising their personal development. The relevance of ethical practices in research and organizational citizenship behavior towards their jobs with focus on quality assurance in higher education had also been highlighted in this course.
It had been emphasized to the teachers that the spirit of humanity should never be compromised in their noble profession of teaching in the race of career advancement. The participants had also been made aware about the broader issues of sustainable development and implementation of National Education Policy 2020. The faculty participants had been apprised of the various innovations that can be adapted in course pedagogy for practice-oriented Business Management, Economics and Commerce Education, such as multimedia-based approach, real-life case studies and immersion, use of simulation games, recognition of student performance, and continuous student feedback so as to develop the students as tomorrow’s leaders, managers, and professionals.
