GNDU’s budget estimates for year 2025-26 approved

The Senate of the Guru Nanak Dev University approved the Budget Estimates of 764 crore 35 lac and 59 thousand for the year 2025-26.  University would spend 46.27 percent amount on further improvement in Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. The Syndicate also accorded its approval in the separate meeting held in the Syndicate room of the University.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor presided over both the Syndicate and Senate meetings which were held here today in the Syndicate and Senate hall of the University. Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar presented the agenda in both the meetings. The members congratulated Prof. Karamjeet Singh and University Administration for presenting a balanced budget. Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, large number of Syndicate and Senate members were present in the meetings.

During the ensuing financial year 2024-25, the University has spent Rs. 3 crores 81 lac to help the economically backward and intelligent students in the form of fee concessions. The fee claim of Rs. 18 Crore 14 Lac & 25 thousand of 2076 SC students under post matric scholarships for SC students has been sent to Government of Punjab and online claim for 40 students under National Scholarship scheme has also been sent to the Government. All efforts were made by the University to help the financially backward students so that they could achieve higher education and contribute their share in the progress of the nation.

During this financial year, University would spend 46.27 per cent of the total budget on Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. Similarly, 11.26 percent would be spent on non-teaching departments, 10.52 percent on general administration, 3.00 percent on the conduct of examinations, 6.86 percent on miscellaneous (teaching, non-teaching and others) and 6.12 percent would be spent on construction purposes. Total 15.97 percent of the budget will be for pension and other retirement benefits.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh also informed the house about the achievements of the University in the field of research, education, culture, sports and campus placements during this year.  He said that 831 students from various department of the University were placed in various national and international  companies during 2024. In sports, the University won 16 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze medals in International and national levels. The University also got 2nd runners up position in North Zone Youth Festival and 1st Runners Up position in Inter-University National Level.

He said that during this financial year, the University received grants from various funding agencies for MYAS-Department of Sports Science and Medicine, Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, DBT Supported M.Sc. Biotechnology, DBT UMMID Project, Cetnre for Interfaith Studies, NTTM Scheme to Department of Apparel & Textile Technology, NSDF Scheme and AMRUT Funded Centre of Urban Planning for Capacity Building to Guru Ramdas School of Planning.

Vice Chancellor said that the University will established a new hostel Sahibzada Fateh Singh Boys Hostel due to increase of student admissions. He said that from the next session the 100 Ph.D GNDU students will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 8,000 each as part of a new initiative aimed at promoting research and there will be no burden on the University financial health.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh also thanked the members and University fraternity for their cooperation and guidance for the upliftment of the University.
