Illustrious former GNDU Professor Dr. Narpinder Singh brings laurels, elected Fellow of Internationally acclaimed IAFoST

Dr. Narpinder Singh, former Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and currently Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious International Academy of Food Science and Technology.

This distinguished honour recognizes his outstanding contributions to food science, research, and academic leadership at the global level.

IAFoST, the scientific arm of the International Union of Food Science and Technology, brings together eminent food scientists worldwide who have made exceptional contributions to advancing food science and technology. Dr. Singh’s election to this elite academy reflects his exemplary career and sustained impact on research, innovation, and education.

The formal induction of new Fellows will take place during the 23rd World Congress of Food Science and Technology, scheduled from 25–29 October 2026 in Hong Kong SAR, China, where his achievements will be globally recognized.

Dr. Singh is a distinguished food scientist with over 36 years of experience in teaching, research, industry mentoring, and academic administration. He obtained his B.Sc. (Agriculture), M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Food Technology from Punjab Agricultural University.

Prior to his current role as Vice Chancellor (since January 2023), he served at Guru Nanak Dev University as Professor, Head of Department, Director Research, and Dean (Faculty of Applied Sciences). During his tenure at GNDU, he played a pivotal role in strengthening the university’s research ecosystem by bringing in a large number of externally funded research and infrastructural projects, significantly enhancing laboratory facilities, innovation capacity, and academic excellence.

He is a Fellow of several prestigious academies, including The World Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, National Academy of Sciences India, Royal Society of Chemistry, Indian Chemical Society, and the Cereals and Grains Association(formerly American Association of Cereal Chemists, AACC), and is also a Fellow of several other national academies in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions.

Dr. Singh also served as President of the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) in 2016, demonstrating his leadership in the field of food science. He has served as Guest Editor for numerous international journals, contributing significantly to global scientific publishing and knowledge dissemination.

His notable recognitions include the J. C. Bose National Fellowship by Science and Engineering Research Board, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, along with numerous other national awards honoring his excellence in research, innovation, and academic leadership.

Dr. Singh has also been awarded prestigious international fellowships such as the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship (UK), JSPS Fellowship (Japan), USDA–Cochran Fellowship (USA), and The Royal Society Fellowship (UK). He has served as Visiting Scientist/Professor at leading global institutions including the Institute of Food Research (UK), Osaka City University (Japan), Kansas State University (USA), University of East Anglia (UK), and South China University of Technology (China).

With over 440 publications, more than 37,000 citations, and an h-index of 101, Dr. Singh is widely recognized among the most influential scientists in agriculture and food science. He has supervised over 35 Ph.D. scholars and contributed extensively to scientific publishing, including serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Food Science and Technology (2016–2019) and as Book Series Editor with Springer Nature (2025).

This recognition by IAFoST marks another milestone in Dr. Singh’s illustrious career and reflects his unwavering commitment to advancing food science for global health, sustainability, and innovation.
