In less than 24 hours Bhakra water outflow increases from dam, one third of gate level opened to release water in phases

Bhakra Beas Management Board has increased the water outflow from Bhakra dam to 85,000 cusecs after the water level crosses 1679 feet.

Yesterday morning the outflow was 65,000 cusecs and later it was increased to 75,000 cusecs. Now, the BBMB authorities have decided to increase the same to 85,000 cusecs after the water level increases in the Gobind Sagar reservoir of the Bhakra dam.

The extra water will be release in phased manner. Every hour 2000 cusecs of water will be released in phased manner from the dam and within 5 hours 10,000 cusecs of water will be added in 75,000 releases taking it tom 85,000 cusecs. The decision is taken in the Technical Committee Meeting (TCM) of the BBMB held few minutes ago (at around 1:30 pm) to increase the outflow of water from the Bhakra dam” said a senior functionary of the board on the condition of anonymity.

As per sources “35,000 cusecs of water will be released from turbines and 50,000 cusecs will be released from spillways (gates) after increasing the gate level from 8 feet. The maximum heights of the gate are 27 feet’s. Now the gates height will further increased to release 2000 cusecs of water“

As per available information, the board has released the first lot of extra 2000 cusecs of water taking the outflow to 42000 cusecs.

Now the board will release the next lot of 2000 cusecs at 3,4,5,6 pm. By 6pm the total outflow will touch 50000 cusecs of water.

Today the inflow of water in Bhakra dam is 80000 cusecs.

On the other hand the level in Pong dam touches 1394.51 feet. The outflow of water from the pong dam is 91167 cusecs against inflow of 132595 cusecs.

The water level at Ranjit Sagar Dam touches 527.05 meter . The outflow of water 69754 cusecs against the inflow of 78193 cusecs
