Increased number of Family Counselling Centres in offing: Gursharan Kaur Randhawa

“The Punjab State Social Welfare Board is fully committed to work in the direction of providing counselling services to the women who are victims of cruelty besides addressing familial and social disputes.” These views were expressed here today by the Chairperson of the Punjab State Social Welfare Board (PSSWB) .
Randhawa while presiding over a review meeting of the board with special focus on the 6 Family Counselling Centres (FCCs) being run in Punjab by the PSSWB with the assistance of Central Social Welfare Board, Union Ministry of Women and Child Development .
During the course of the meeting, the counsellors as well as the office bearers of the FCCs put forward their demand pertaining to opening of new FCCs at district level and increasing the budget with regard to salaries of the counsellors and office expenditures. To this, the Chairperson Randhawa assured that she would emphatically take up the case with the Central Social Welfare Board so as to ensure that the benefits under the scheme accrue to the people at grassroots level. The Chairperson was also apprised by the representatives about the work done by their respective FCCs.
It is worth mentioning that the PSSWB is running FCCs in the Districts of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot, S.A.S. Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Rupnagar through NGOs and 100 percent funding. Each FCC has 2 counsellors whose main function is to provide counselling and help to the women who are victims of cruelty apart from rendering assistance in addressing the other familial and social issues.
Among others present in the meeting included Secretary of the PSSWB Abhishek, FCC Incharge Narinder Singh, Sunita P.A., and office bearers of the FCCs as well as counsellors.
