Khalsa College Patiala organizes special program on the occasion of Sirhind Fateh Day

Department of Religious Studies of Khalsa College Patiala organized a special function today on the occasion of Sirhind Fateh Day in which teachers and students of different departments of the college participated.

Dr.  Dharminder Singh Ubha , Principal Khalsa College Patiala said that the conquest of Sirhind by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur is a very important event in the history of India which broke the myth of invincibility of the Mughals that had been going on for 700 years and opened the way for the freedom of the oppressed people.

Dr.  Gurvir Singh, Head, Department of Religious Studies, while throwing light on the life of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur ji , said that due to the grace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Nanded, Banda Singh Bahadur decided to give up his life as a recluse and stand against oppression.  Then, under his leadership, the whole panth unitedly punished Wazir Khan for the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas and also reformed other oppressors.

He also told that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur established the first Sikh state and also gave ownership rights of land to the muzaars of the land.  Dr.  Davinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Punjabi Department, while talking about the ramifications of Sikh history, said that where the death of the children of a deer made Baba Banda Singh Bahadur a recluse in his childhood, the news of the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas ended his life of recluse and brought him on the canvas of history as a great conqueror.  Stage was conducted by Prof.  Amandeep Singh, Department of Geography.  On this occasion, besides others, Bursar Dr.  Ravinderjit Singh, College Superintendent Ravinderjit Singh and students were present.
