In a midnight development, the Congress has called a legislature party meet for Punjab on Saturday. Senior Congress leader and incharge Punjab affairs Harish Rawat informed that the party had received “representation” from many of its MLAs in the state to “immediately convene” the meeting, which will take place today at 5:00 pm”
While the chief minister is the leader of the CLP and usually calls the meeting, the AICC directive is being seen as unusual, signalling fresh fireworks in the faction-ridden state unit.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat made the announcement at around midnight. “The AICC has received a representation from a large number of party MLAs, requesting to immediately convene a meeting of the legislature party of Punjab,” he posted on Twitter.
The CLP meeting has been convened at the Punjab Congress office here at 5pm. All the MLAs have been asked to attend the meeting. “AICC directs the PPCC to facilitate this meeting.”
PPCC President Navjot Singh Sidhu also confirmed the same through a tweet ” As per the AICC directive, Congress Legislative Party meeting has been convened at @INCPunjab PPCC Office, Chandigarh on 18 September 2021 (Saturday) 5 PM.”

Litmus test for Sidhu’s -September 18 a D Day for Punjab Congress? Recently 40 annoyed MLAs of the Navjot Singh Sidhu brigade reportedly wrote a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, alleging step-motherly treatment to them. The Congress high command decision to convene the legislature party meet has come amidst the continuous infighting within the party’s Punjab camp between PPCC president Navjot Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
