Malwa Gramin Bank employees protested over privatization

More than a million employees of all 56 Regional Rural banks in the country observed three-day strike on the call given by United Forum of Regional Rural Bank Unions on 26,27, and on 28 March 2018.

In Punjab over 300 branches remained closed. Similarly , in the country work will remain closed in nearly 20000 branches. Including all 89 branches of Malwa Gramin Bank was closed and the head office remained closed and no other transaction was done.

Malwa Gramin Bank Offices and Employees Association today protested before the Patiala branch of the bank, in which large number of employees participated.

Addressing the rally, the Deputy Secretary General of the Punjab Bank Employees Federation, S. K Gautam said that with the Government move of privatization of rural banks, the rural economy of the country will be totally devastated .Therefore, we Strongly opposes this move. He further said that the central government is deliberately blocking the payment of pension to the employees of rural Banks. Employees of Gramin Banks are also demanding allowances and other facilities at par with commercial banks. He further said that all facility should be implemented equal to commercial banks in the rural banks also. Regional Secretary of Malwa Rural Bank Officers Association, P. P. Singh, Nkhaya, that pressure on the bank employees is being mounted to forcefully insurance is going on, to which they are strongly opposed.

Gurdeep Singh Bhullar said that with the privatization of rural banks, farmers, laborers and small traders will have to face a lot of difficulty in getting financial services. Women leader Asha Gupta said that if demands are not are met we shall go on indefinite strike for which the government will be responsible.
