Navjot Sidhu along with ministers, MLAs arrested

Punjab Pradesh congress committee president Navjot Singh Sidhu along with Punjab cabinet ministers, MLAs were arrested at Yamuna Nagar (Haryana)-Saharanpur (UP) border. They were going to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar PradeshUttar Pradesh border. The party members accompanying Sidhu were also taken into custody.
All of them were kept at Sarvasa Saharnpur police station. Those arrested and detained include Vijay inder single, Amarinder singh Raja Warring, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Hardial Kamboj, Fateh Jung Bajwa, Surjit Kumar Dhiman etc.
Sidhu was leading a protest march of Congress workers from Punjab to Lakhimpur Kheri to protest the killing of farmers in an incident of violence on Sunday. Hundreds of supporters gathered at the UP-Haryana border to march with Sidhu and raised slogans.
Navjot Sidhu along with ministers, MLAs arrested. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also joined Sidhu for a brief period when the march was about to start in the morning from Mohali.
The Supreme Court has sought a status report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the first information report (FIR) registered and arrests made in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, in which eight people including farmers, were run over by a four-wheeler. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he will go on hunger strike tomorrow if Ajay Mishra Teni’s son is not arrested. Allahabad High Court Justice (retd) Pradeep Kumar Srivastava has been appointed as a single-member Commission of enquiry with headquarters at Lakhimpur Kheri to probe the incident of violence.
