NGO demands State of the Art First Aid Training Centre in Patiala

Patiala-To further improve first aid training programme and involve more people in first aid training, Society for People’s Welfare & Awareness Patiala (SPWAP), an NGO of Patiala has demanded from the state Government for construction of a state of the art First Aid training centre in Patiala.

According to president of the NGO Dr DS Bhullar, the Red Cross District branch Patiala has bagged first position in first aid training and third position in home nursing training in the state this year in spite of the fact the Red Cross building being used for first aid training and the working conditions are not in good shape. The Red Cross building is in a dilapidated state with no proper sitting place for the trainees and poor air conditioning and drinking water facilities.

During the monthly meeting of the NGO, it was decided to send a memorandum to the Chief Minister Punjab through Deputy Commissioner Patiala with a demand for construction of a state of the art first aid training centre under Indian Red Cross Society Patiala branch with a capacity for at least 300 participants including double-storey hall with proper lights and sound system, air-conditioning facility, proper sitting and drinking water arrangement, projectors and practical equipment.

More than 300 people per month are being imparted first aid and home nursing training by St. John Ambulance Brigade of Indian Red Cross Society District Branch Patiala and given certificates mandatory for conductor jobs in Punjab. The NGO has also demanded amendment in Motor Vehicle Rules or administrative directions to Transport Department Punjab for mandatory first aid training for procuring driving license to enable each vehicular driver with training in first aid and home nursing keeping in view the rising incidences of road accidents in the country, said Bhullar who is also Divisional Surgeon of the ongoing first aid training programme in the district.
