Noise Pollution-SDM holds meeting with Religious Bodies

Patiala -“Public consensus is the need of hour to keep the sound, emanating out from the loudspeakers of the religious organizations, within their premises and people should help the district administration in curbing the menace of noise pollution.” This was stated today by SDM Patiala Anmol Singh Dhaliwal.

He was addressing the meeting of representatives of religious organizations to find a solution to comply with the orders of the Supreme Court and the Punjab Pollution Control Board on issue of noise pollution.

The major outcome of this meeting was the support extended by members of religious organizations who assured to help district administration in every possible manner to reduce the level of noise in Patiala city.

Expressing serious concern over the problems created by noise pollution, the SDM stated that this issue is of utmost importance which revolves around the life of a common man and this need immediate attention. He pointed out that the noise pollution creates hurdles not only for the students taking different exams but also the elderly people and patients as well.

SDM holds meeting with Religious Organizations about Noise Pollution

The district administration would first take up this matter with all the concerned people and the public would be made aware of the bad consequences of noise pollution after which strict action would be taken against all those who would flout the norms and guidelines.

SDM said that Government of India has issues instructions and guidelines under the Noise Pollution Control Rules and Regulations 2000 and also the Supreme Court in 2005 deciding a writ petition number 72/1998 has strictly ordered to ban any kind of noise pollution between 10 pm to 6 am.

Similarly the Punjab Pollution Control Board too has shown strictness in this regard and has taken stringent measures under which the bursting of sudden noise from the motorcycles and use of pressure horn in commercial or private vehicles too has been taken very seriously. Also the Punjab Instruments Control of Noise Act 1956 has issued detailed instructions in this regard.

SDM said that the need of hour is to follow instructions in this regard and help the district administration so that the guidelines and rules can be implemented in this regard to reduce the menace of noise pollution. Today’s meeting was also attended by representatives from the other temples and mosques.
