Punjab government has once again changed the additional director general of police (ADGP) Jails B Chandra Shekhar with immediate effect and has appointed Arun Pal, ADGP, Modernisation as the new ADGP jails of the state.
Earlier, after the formation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, in April 2022 the state government had replaced the than Additional Director General of Police (Jails) Praveen Kumar Sinha with Varinder Kumar, who was ADGP (Provisioning), and was given the additional charge.
In June 2022, Punjab government gave additional director general of police Harpreet Singh Sidhu, a 1992-batch IPS officer, the charge of prisons in addition to his posting as head anti-drug special task force.
In October 2022, Harpreet Singh Sidhu moved on to central deputation and in November the incumbent B Chandra Shekhar had been appointed as the head of Punjab prisons/ jails department.
This time no posting orders have been issued to the changed ADGP jails, B Chandra Shekhar . He has been told to report to the director general of police office.
B. Chander shekhar, might have been replaced as ADGP jails as the state government is facing flak over the interview of dreaded gangster and main conspirator of singer Shubhdeep Singh alais Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in a Bathinda jail, to a private news channel. This has sent the Punjab prisons department into a tizzy.
As per available information, recently, the state government has formed a two member panel being headed by special DGP Kuldeep Singh and ADGP (Jails) B Chandra Shekhar to probe how two interviews of category-A gangster Lawrence Bishnoi were conducted allegedly from inside the Bathinda Jail.
Once again ADGP jails transferred in Punjab; fourth in last one year; may delay Bishnoi’s interview probe as with the transfer of B Chandra Shekhar as ADGP jails ,the state government has to once again re-form the probe panel.
