Once again Punjab’s largest thermal plant ditches PSPCL in paddy season

It’s almost a week now, the defaulted unit of 660 MW of Punjab’s largest thermal plant Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) in Mansa district is not working and is still out of order.

As per available information, out of three, one unit of TSPL is out of order around since July 9,2024. Two other units are functioning smoothly.

This is the fifth time that a unit of TSPL is out of order in last around 40-45 days. Earlier, around on June 1, June 19, June 23 and July 2,2024 one out of three units of 660 MW each remained out of order.

The power demand is remaining above 15000 MW in the ongoing paddy season. Today’s highest demand was recorded 15462 MW at 12:00 noon

Punjab is generating around 5600 MW from all sources be it thermal, hydro, solar etc.

At present all four units of GGSSTP, Ropar, three units of GHTP Lehra Mohabbat, two units of GATP Goindwal Sahib besides NPL, Rajpura are running on full capacity.

Once again Punjab’s largest thermal plant ditches PSPCL in paddy season . When contacted the director generation PSPCL Paramjit Singh, he said “the management of TSPL has informed us that they will lit up the unit by today evening. We have all arrangements to meet the power demand. ”

An expert said, “Despite ongoing paddy season, several factors contribute to this soaring demand. The use of air conditioners and cooling appliances has surged due to extreme heat and humidity, particularly with the arrival of monsoon rains.”

Earlier in March 2021 unit no 3 (happens to be the same unit which is presently not functioning) was detected with major technical glitch and was out of order from March’21 till July 31,2021. At that time, a Team of highly qualified engineers from Korea, BHEL, GE & Siemens worked day in and out for assembling and setting the unit in motion
