Patiala administration fails to honor deserving personalities on Republic day; resentment prevails among them

On this year Republic Day some Patialavis who had excelled in their field were not honoured during the state level function in Patiala.

During Republic Day and Independence Day, successive governments, district administrations honours various personalities who excelled in their respective fields like art, sports, education, administration, science, innovation etc.

This year also many personalities were awarded with padma awards, civil honours, medals of men in uniform etc by central, state governments, district administration at their levels.

This year state level function of Punjab was held at Patiala where Governor Banwari Lal Purohit unfurled the national flag. On this occasion many personalities from different walk of life, field were honoured for their services to society in their respective fields.

But, the Patiala district administration fails to honour some personalities who had brought laurels for the city, state, nation. Remembering their contribution becomes all the more important at this juncture but the administration failed to recognize their efforts, achievements.

Two young boys Kamaldeep Sharma, Manish Gupta made Patiala, Punjab, India proud as they are the members of team Chandrayaan 3. The administration failed to honour them at Republic Day function.

A ten years old cyclist Raavi Badesha peddled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Spiti circuit from Shimla to Manali when she was 8 years old. Her feat also goes unnoticed.

‘Development of Real-Time Intelligent System for Women’s Safety’ an android-based mobile app designed to address immediate safety needs by Punjabi University researcher Priyanka failed to bring her recognition at Republic Day function.

When contacted Kamaldeep Sharma, Manish Gupta, guardians of cyclist Raavi said no one from the district administration had contacted us for Republic Day function, honour or award. When contacted the Punjabi University registrar Dr Navjot kaur said “this republic day no official communication has been received from district administration to send them a list of deserving personalities for an award.”

Besides them many others including sports person who has brought laurels for the city, state, nation are ignored during this Republic day function.

“Republic day or Independence Day awards are just a token of recognition for excellence in a certain field. The awards are powerful tools that motivate, validate, and inspire individuals and groups to excel. Not honouring the deserving personalities on such occasions is a grand failure of Patiala administration” said Amarinder Singh Bazaz, former shiromani akali dal mayor and presently halqa incharge, Patiala.

Meanwhile additional deputy commissioner (general) couldn’t be contacted despite attempts. She remained busy is a meeting.
