Some private schools in Patiala openly defied the official orders of the Punjab Chief Minister by opening schools on holidays, seemingly challenging his authority. They called teachers to schools despite government-declared holidays for students and staff.
Few private schools of Patiala are regular offenders- disobeying the orders of the state’s Chief Minister and Education Minister.
Despite this persistent defiance of government directives, the district administration has failed to take effective action against the defaulter schools.
A principal of another reputed school on the condition of anonymity said “Many other schools are calling teachers. Instructions must be clear and uniform for everyone, and the Government notification should be strictly followed by all schools; otherwise, we feel we are lagging behind.”
When contacted the district education officer (DEO), Patiala Sanjeev Kumar he said “ both DAV Public School, Patiala and Mata Gujri Senior Secondary School, Devigarh will not open their schools, tomorrow.”
When asked why they defied government orders, DEO Sanjeev Kumar said, “DAV School was conducting a recruitment test for teachers. That is why they had called the teachers.”

When further asked whether a recruitment test for a few teachers required 100–125 school teachers, when it could be managed by 4–5 teachers as it was a computer-based test, he said, “The school authorities informed me about this. They will not open tomorrow.”
When asked whether the Education Department was issuing any notices or initiating action against the erring schools so that they and others would not dare to defy the Chief Minister’s and Education Minister’s orders in the future, he said, “No,” adding that they were verbally asked to follow government orders.
