Patiala police busts interstate gang of highway robbers; averts planned crime in Ludhiana, Jalandhar

“In a major breakthrough Patiala police busts an Interstate gang of Highway robbers operating from Delhi.” The information is shared by Gaurav Yadav, director general of Punjab police (DGP).

Yadav informed that five members of the highway robbers have been arrested by Patiala police from Rajpura highway. They have more than 20 criminal cases under Sec-307, 395, 392, 382 ,379 IPC  & Arms Act registered  against them in New Delhi.

The police has recovered 3 pistols and 20 live cartridges along with one vehicle & other heavy duty tools. They had plans to commit sensational crime in Ludhiana & Jalandhar. This notorious gang has footprints in Delhi, UP, Uttrakhand, Haryana & Punjab added Patiala police.

Briefing the media, SSP said that the gang’s  modus operandi was to target Houses, Showrooms, Jewellery Shops, and vehicles near the highways. On 09.02.2024, an information was received that members of this gang are on their way to Punjab via Rajpura. Acting on the human intelligence , under the supervision of SP Investigation Yogesh Kumar & guidance of DSP Rajpura Bikramjit Singh Brar, a special team of SHO City Rajpura inspector Princejit Singh and other officials laid naka on Rajpura highway & successfully arrested five members by intercepting their vehicle. 3 pistols and 20 live cartridges along with one vehicle & other heavy duty tools have been recovered from them.

Providing more details, the SSP said that those arrested have been identified as Prince Nagi @ Rupesh r/o New Delhi, Rajan Bisht r/o New Delhi, Arif Ali r/o New Delhi, Vicky r/o New Delhi and Mohammad Sahil r/o New Delhi. Accussed Prince Nagi & Rajan have more then 20 cases of Attempt to murder, Dacoity, Robbery, thefts & Arms act registered  against them in New Delhi.

They have been booked under section 382 (Theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft ), 399 (Whoever makes any preparation for committing dacoity), 473 (Whoever makes or counterfeits any seal, plate or other instrument for making an impression, intending that the same shall be used for the purpose of committing any forgery)  IPC &  25(6)Amendment of Arms Act (If any member of an organised crime syndicate or any person on its behalf has at any time has in his possession or carries any arms or ammunition) and an FIR has been registered at PS City Rajpura, Patiala.

“Punjab police is fully committed to knock-down the organised crime nexus as per directions of CM Bhagwant Mann” added DGP Yadav.
