Punjabi University authorities closed its teaching, non teaching departments for four days after students protest, seeking 24X7 hostel entry for girls.
Last night students of two different groups clashed on this issue. To keep the situation under control and stop the law and order to deteriorate in the campus, university authorities closed the university.
Dean Academic Affairs ordered the closure of university through a notice. The dean said in a notice that โas per university rules, the hotel timings for girl are fixedโ. Only one student organisation is demanding the relaxation and wants girlโs hostels to remain open for 24X7.Other studentโs organisations are not supporting this. The whole day University authorities the student organisation discussed on this. But the students representating that organisation remained adamant on their demand for 24X7 entries of girls to hostels.
Earlier the students launched a week long signature campaign and went on indefinite strike. ย The girlโs students were demanding that when authorities can give round the clock hostel entry permission to boys, then why they are denying the same to girls.
Now the university will open on Monday i.e September 24
