Police Inspector arrested by vigilance bureau for accepting Rs six lakh bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Friday, has arrested Inspector of Police Vijay Kumar, who was earlier posted as Incharge CIA Samana, Patiala district for accepting a bribe of Rs six lakh in conniving with co-accused ASI Raghvir Singh.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said Inspector Vijay Kumar has been arrested in FIR No 36 dated 23.10.2023 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act registered at VB police station Patiala range. Earlier to this, ASI Raghvir Singh was arrested in this FIR and after his interrogation aforementioned Inspector Vijay Kumar was also nominated in this case.
He further informed that the above said FIR was registered after verification of an online complaint lodged by Shampy Singh, a resident Samana town in Patiala district against the above said ASI Raghuvir Singh (No 1245/PTL). The complainant has alleged in his online complaint that the accused ASI had demanded illegal gratification of Rs ten lakh for joining an investigation of a case registered against him in the Samana police station and had already taken Rs six lakh as a bribe on 27-04-2023 and asking for the remaining money of Rs four lakh. Further investigation into this case was under progress.
