Power employees and engineers announces nationwide strike in protest against the privatization of electricity utilities

The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) decided to resort to a nationwide strike on June 26 to protest against the privatization of electricity utilities and departments .
The National Conference of NCCOEEEE was held in Nagpur on Sunday was addressed by Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of All India Power Engineers Federation(AIPEF) , P. Ratnakar Rao, Secretary General, Mohan Sharma of AIFEE, Krishna Bhoyur, Prashant Chaudhary of EEFI , Subhash Lamba, Samar Sinha , Biju Krishna of BKM , Girish Bhave of KEM and others, informed V K Gupta
In the resolution passed in the general meeting of NCCOEEE, it has been said that the government privatized the highly profitable, efficient and low tariff Chandigarh Power Utility, whereas the profits of the utility for the past several years were around 250 crores. The way the profit making electricity department of Chandigarh was privatised is extremely objectionable.
Various speakers spoke about the ongoing UP privatisation process and said that according to the government, there is a power revenue arrears of Rs 1.15 lakh crores in Uttar Pradesh and a deficit of Rs 1.10 lakh crores. Thus, it is clear that if the revenue is recovered, the power distribution corporations of Uttar Pradesh are in profit.
Dubey said that heavy investment has been made by the governments in two UP Discoms in the last few years under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to bring down the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) Losses of these utilities. These two utilities are yet to collect Rs 66,000 crores as pending bills which will be added to private kitty if these are handed over.
The proposal states that the transmission sector is being privatized on a large scale in the name of tariff based competitive bidding and asset monetization. The common consumers are bearing the brunt of privatization in the generation sector in the form of very expensive electricity.
The memorandum states that the transmission sector is being privatized extensively in the name of tariff-based competitive bidding and asset monetization .The Rajasthan Government has also started a bidding process to privatize the generation projects.

NCCOEEE will hold five meetings in March Chennai, Mumbai , Kolkata , Guwahati , and Dehradun .State level conventions will be held in every state in April against privatisation of the power sector.
