Proud moment for a Son: 1971 Indian Army Hero’s son invited to Bangladesh to deliver lecture at an international conference

It is a matter of great pride that the son of one of the Indian Army heroes of the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971 was invited for a lecture to the 3rd International Conference of the Bangladesh Vascular Society (BVS) in Dhaka on 9th March 2024.
Dr Harinder Singh Bedi – Director of Cardio Vascular Sciences at the Park Hospital Mohali – is the son of decorated late Maj KMS Bedi (retd) who led his troops of paratroopers to land behind enemy lines in 1971. Maj Bedi was leading his highly trained brave heart paratrooper section of the then secret 22 Est based in Chakrata . His men were para-dropped behind the enemy lines by air to surround the Pakistani Army. This helped in forcing surrender to the Indian Army on 16 Dec 1971.
Dr Bedi is a renowned senior Cardio Vascular surgeon who was earlier in Escorts Heart Delhi and St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. He is one of the very few surgeons who is an expert in both Cardiac and Vascular Surgery. He is the pioneer of the technique of beating heart surgery and also of a new Vascular surgery technique . For both of these he has a name in the ‘Limca Book of World Records’ .
He was invited to speak on the latest treatment of a deadly disease called Pumonary Embolism – PE . If untreated massive PE leads to death in a short time . In recent times there have been new endovascular methods which have tremendously improved the results . Dr Bedi has a positive experience of these cases – including one which was the first in the world and published in world literature.
Dr Bedi gave tips on how to make this new technique successful. The International audience of experts were greatly enriched with this lecture . The local experts besides thanking Dr Bedi for the lecture also expressed their gratitude for the contribution of his father in their Independence.
