PSPCL abolishes 3216 posts from chief engineer to beldar level

Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) has issue the orders to abolish 3216 posts. Out of these 3216 posts, 1049 posts were abolished in Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant (GGSSTP), Ropar and 2167 posts from Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) Bathinda. Posts ranging from chief engineer, superintending engineer to beldar, all levels were abolished.  As per information, the sanctioned strength of posts in the PSPCL is 75,757.

As per the information, Punjab state Power Corporation limited (PSPCL) management has taken the decision to abolish these post in its 83rd board of directors meeting, held at Mohali on August, 20,2020, and now the process begins.

PSPCL has already shut down its first thermal plant Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) Bathinda in 2018 and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ruled out reversal of the government’s decision to close down the Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP), Bathinda, pointing to the non-feasibility of its continued operations, after the staff agitation.

PSPCL move to abolish these posts came after the state government asked the various departments to cut expenses and abolish unnecessary posts. It was decided that any post lying vacant for the past one year may be abolished as per the instructions of the state government. As per information more than 40,000 posts in the power sector in Punjab, comprising Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) could soon be abolished and corporation has started the process.
