Punjab Chapter of The Association Surgeons of India conducts STEP at Parmar hospital

The Association Surgeons of India (ASI) Punjab Chapter successfully conducted a two day STEP( Surgeons Training for Endoscopic Procedures) program on 28th and 28th June under the aegis of Association of Surgeons of India at Parmar Hospital, Ropar.

Dr G Siddesh, Former HOD Mysore Medical College and Past President ASI, Dr Bhavneet Bhalla ( World Laparoscopy Hospital, Gurgaon), Dr B P S Parmar (Chairman ASI Punjab Chapter), Dr Jasmeet Ahluwalia (Star Hospital Jallandhar and Dr Sushil Kumar ( Parmar Hospital Ropar) were the faculty for this program.

This hand on training program was well attended by 17 delegates from various parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, New Delhi and Bihar.

Didactic lectures covering indications, endoscopic anatomy and hardware, anaesthesia, techniques, pathologies, endoscopic accessories scope maintenance and disinfection were followed by hands on training on simulators, mannequins and animal tissues provided by Olympus endoscopy.

Live surgeries included 18 endoscopic procedures were demonstrated by experts. They included Diagnostic endoscopies, EVL( banding), endoscopic biopsies, NJ tube placement, Stricture dilatation and two ERCPs. It was a wonderful exposure and a great learning experience for the young surgeons who were planning to take up Upper GI endoscopy in the near future.

Dr Jagdeep Chaudhary, State Coordinator ASI Punjab conducted the proceedings and took care of logistics. Dr Praveen Suryavanshi, President ASI gave an online address congratulating the organisers for a successful STEP program.
