Punjab State Food Commission member visited schools of Barnala

Punjab State Food Commission member Captain Preetdev Singh Shergill today visited schools and anganwaadi centers of Barnala district in order to check the implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the State. He also held a meeting with administrative officials to review grain distribution system and other schemes of the government.
Shergill said that the commission has been committed to implement the provisions of National Food Safety Act (NFSA) in Punjab. He added that the commission has also been acting very seriously to eradicate malnutrition from the state with help of government schemes. He also asked the officials to compile a proper report about malnourished children of the district to provide them balanced diet under various government schemes.
During his visit, Captain Shergill found some minor irregularities in the implementation of this scheme in Schools and Anganwadis and order to rectify these problems soon. He directed the concerned officials to keep proper vigil on these schemes with regular checking and proper hygiene should be maintained while storing food items and preparing and serving food to the children.
Captain Preetdev Singh Shergill said that officials of food supplies department have also asked to ensure proper distribution of grains under PDS. He appealed common people to submit their complaints regarding grain distribution, mid day meal scheme and ICDS with District Grievances Redressal Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner. He added that the complainant could also lodge a complaint directly with the commission related with the food item distribution.
