Punjabi University honors Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi on varsity’s foundation day

Vice Chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala Dr. Arvind on Saturday honoured the renowned scholar Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi in recognition of his enormous contribution in the field of Punjabi language, literature and Sikh history.
Addressing a galaxy of eminent literary personalities on the special function organised here at Guru Tegh Bahadur hall to mark the completion of 60 years of varsity’s foundation , Dr. Arvind said it was a sheer honour and proud moment for the University to honour Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi for his outstanding contribution for enrichment of Punjabi literature. The Vice Chancellor said that Dr. Jaggi has handed out to the mankind a vast and invaluable treasure of more than 129 publications on a variety of subjects, ranging from ancient to the modern periods of Bhakti as well as Punjabi literature. His works are not limited to any one language, rather he commands a complete understanding of English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit, said Dr. Arvind.
Earlier interacting with VC Dr. Arvind in his office , Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi emphasised the need to encourage the upcoming intellectuals and litterateurs for the promotion of Punjabi language and literature and asked the Punjabi University to play a pivotal role in this regard, for which the VC assured of fulsome support and cooperation for this noble cause .
Dr. Jaggi said he was highly elated to be honoured by the University where he served for more than 24 years. He said the immense honour and respect which he earned for his literary works has further inspired him to continue his literary stint untiringly till today.
Notably, Dr. Jaggi has received prominent awards including National Award for translation of “Tulsi Ramayan” in Punjabi by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in 1989; “Punjabi Sahit Shiromani Award” (Renamed “Punjabi Sahit Ratan Award”) by Punjab Govt. in 1996 (Highest State Award); “Sauhard Puraskar” by Hindi Sansthan (U.P. Govt. Lucknow), 1996; Param Sahit Satkar Sanman by Punjabi Academy, Delhi Govt., Delhi in 2010.
Punjabi University honors Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi on varsity’s foundation day. Prominent amongst other literary luminaries Padama Shri Dr. Surjit Patar and former VC Dr. Manjit Singh Kang Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana also graced the occasion.
