Punjabi University Patiala released PunjabiPedia Android mobile app

Dr. Arvind, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala released PunjabiPedia Android mobile app developed by PunjabiPedia Centre,PUP. During a program held in this regard in the Syndicate Room, Dr. Pargat Singh, Retired Leader Mathematics Group, London Metropolitan University, UK and Chairman Sikh Education Council UK was the chief guest in the function. He joined the function through online mode. Vikram Jeet Duggal, DIG, Patiala Range was the special guest on the occasion who specially visited Punjabi University, Patiala.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Arvind, in his presidential address on the occasion, said that although the entire work done by Punjabi Pedia was already available on the website, it would be directly accessible to every person through the mobile app now. Talking about the development of Punjabi language he said that technological support is necessary for every language today. He said that Punjabi Pedia would be a great help for the development of Punjabi language. He hoped that with the help of Artificial Intelligence such a project would be further refined in future. He lauded the entire team of Punjabi Pedia Centre for this initiative.
The chief guest Dr. Pargat Singh too lauded the initiative of the University and said that the Punjabis all over the world would benefit greatly from this app. He said that he would extend all possible help to Punjabi University for such initiatives through his organizations.
Special Guest on the occasion Vikaram Jeet Duggal, while praising the initiative, said that we need to learn a lesson from South India on how to promote and spread our mother tongue with the help of technology. He said that such initiatives of Punjabi University would definitely take the Punjabi language forward.
PunjabiPedia Center Coordinator Dr. Vishal Goyal delivered the welcome address in the program while the co-ordinator Dr. Rajwinder Singh and Er. Chiranjeev Singh explained in detail about the various uses of this app. They told that using internet on mobile is considered to be more convenient to view the app than the website due to which many people were demanding mobile app for this project. They also informed about some other projects to be undertaken by Punjabi Pedia Centre in future. They said that the staff of Punjabi Pedia Centre, including Web Developer Gurpreet Singh and Senior Assistant Jashan have played an important role in this project for the app.
Those who joined from other countries and shared their views included Kirpal Singh Pannu (Global Punjabi Canada) Akhtar Hussain Sandhu (Government Islamia Graduate College, Lahore), Rajveer Singh (Leader of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council) and Kunwar Brar (Group IT Director, UK). Dr. Devinder Singh, former coordinator of Punjabi Pedia Centre, Dr. Rajinderpal Singh Brar and Dr. Kuldeep Singh also shared their views. Finally, the Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. B. S. Sandhu proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ashok Malik, DPM, Dr. Ashok Tiwary, Dean Research, Dr. Happy Jeji, DPRO and Dr. Majit Patarh, Additional Dean Research were also present on this occasion.
