Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law hosts “National Conference on Seventy-Five Years of the Constitution of India”

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, proudly hosted a seminal “National Conference on Seventy-Five Years of the Constitution of India” on April 19 and 20, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Honourable Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge at the Supreme Court of India, alongside distinguished guest Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary, Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice, New Delhi.

During his address, Justice Rajesh Bindal traced the Constitution’s evolving legacy and the indispensable role of ‘fundamental duties’. Guiding attendees through India’s rich Constitutional heritage, he profoundly unpacked each clause of Article 51A—highlighting contemporary challenges, legislative initiatives, statutory frameworks, and landmark judgments—to underscore our collective pursuit of responsible citizenship and national unity. He declared, “Claiming rights alone empties our common treasury; only by performing and propagating our duties do we truly enrich it”. He also explained the origin and growth of Environmental Law. He discussed various dimensions of law and explored the relationship between Law and Society. He highlighted practical aspects of law and connected the principles of constitution with culture and civilization. He discussed salient feature of the Constitution viz. the President, Parliament, Supreme Court and various organs of the Government. He traced the journey of the Constitution from 1950 to 2025. He unveiled volume 12.1 of the Financial and Mercantile Law Review Journal.

Further, Dr. Rajiv Mani illuminated the deep resonance between our founding charter and India’s ancient traditions, remarking, “The rule of law in Bharat is no foreign import—it is dharma incarnate, timelessly woven into our collective conscience”.

Along with the Conference a Leadership Summit was also organised which witnessed the Panel Discussion on: “Navigating Corporate Compliance: Best Corporate Practices and Challenges.” The panel featured four distinguished experts from the corporate legal sector, Dr.Akhil Prasad, Director, Country Counsel – India, and Company Secretary at Boeing India, C.V. Raghu, Former Group General Counsel at Samvardhana Motherson Group, Rajiv Chauhan, General Counsel and Executive Vice-President – Legal &Compliance at Pernod Ricard South Aisa, Dr. Sanjeev Gemawat, Group General Counsel at Vedanta Group.

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law hosts “National Conference on Seventy-Five Years of the Constitution of India”. The Conference brought together a diverse intellectual gathering of over 200 participants, including students, scholars, academicians, advocates, government officials, and other stakeholders, all united to commemorate and explore the enduring legacy of India’s Constitutional framework. The event was graced by Professors, former High Court Judges and the University’s leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr. Jai Shankar Singh, Registrar Dr.Ivneet Kaur Walia, Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vas, Prof. (Dr.) Kamaljit Kaur, Prof. (Dr.) Archna Misra, Former Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Sonepat, Prof. (Dr.) D.N.
