Right to vote taken away by Punjab Govt- AIBOC

The Punjab State Unit of All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) representing more than 3.20 Lac Bank Officers in India has strongly condemned the action of Punjab Government in not declaring the holiday on account of 19th September for panchayat elections under Negotiable Instruments Act (NI Act) depriving thousands of Bank Officers and Employees working in Punjab state in casting their valuable vote and snatching the constitutional right from Bankmen, said the Secretary of AIBOC Punjab Com Rajiv Sirhindi. He said that state government has not declared the holiday scheduled on 19th for panchayat elections under Negotiable Instruments Act, under which the Holidays are observed in Public Sector Banks.

Sirhindi said that the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) being the largest non political Bank Officers Body in India representing more than 3.20 lac Bank Officers in the country has time and again demanded that the Punjab Government should look into this sensitive matter and arrange to advise the concerned department to declare all public holidays of Punjab Government under Negotiable Instrument Act, so that more than 40000 Bank Officers/Employees working in the state of Punjab in various Banks are not deprived of the opportunity to use their constitutional right to ‘Vote’. He said that if the holiday on 19th September is not declared under NI Act, the voting during ensuing Lok Sabha Elections will be boycotted.

Those prominent Bank Officers leaders present on the occasion includes Jagjit Singh, President AIBOC Punjab who hails from Punjab National Bank, Harshvinder Singh, Vice President from Bank of India, from country largest Bank SBI Harinder Gupta, Jasbir Singh, Harbagh Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Manish Kumar, Rakesh Vermi, Com Davinder Singh, Amanjot Singh, Dinesh Gupta, Amritpal Singh, Yadvinder Singla, Tanpreet Singh and Om Parkash were among those present on the occasion.
