Special Lecture Held at the ‘Centre for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities’ at Punjabi University

A two-day special lecture program was organized at the ‘Centre for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities’ at Punjabi University, Patiala, for students enrolled in the newly introduced 4-year B.A.-B.Ed Special Education (Hearing Impairment), Foundation Stage course, which begins in the 2025–26 academic session.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Raj Singh Sherawat, an expert in the field from Karnal, who spoke in-depth about the education of students with special needs and the challenges involved in the process.

On the second day, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh attended the concluding ceremony and appreciated the Centre’s initiative in launching this unique course and its various activities. He offered his blessings to the students and assured the Centre and its students of full support in all possible ways.

It is noteworthy that this course is offered exclusively by Punjabi University, Patiala across the entire country, with an initial intake of 20 students. It is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi.

Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, shared insights into the Centre’s activities. He expressed happiness at the progress of the Centre, which was established with a Rs 55.60 lakh grant from the Punjab Government in December 2021 and is now functioning actively and building its distinct identity.

Dr. Kiran, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and the Centre’s Co-Coordinator, delivered a vote of thanks. She provided a detailed overview of the Centre’s uniqueness, activities, and objectives, emphasizing that the primary aim of the course is to develop human resources for the education of persons with disabilities and to integrate them into mainstream society.

On this occasion, Dr. Kewal Krishan from the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies also marked his special presence.
