The event aimed to educate students on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer while dispelling myths and promoting preventive measures.
This year’s theme, “United by Unique”, as propagated by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), emphasized a people-centered approach to cancer care. It highlighted that while cancer affects millions globally, each individual’s experience is unique, advocating for personalized and compassionate treatment.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Simran Jot Kaur from the Department of Biotechnology and Samgeet Kaur from the Department of Zoology. Their efforts inspired students to actively engage in the discussions and competitions organized as part of the programme.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Head of Biotechnology, who underscored the significance of the theme “United by Unique”. She highlighted the increasing prevalence of cancer in Punjab and the need for awareness and early detection. Dr. Charan Kamal Sekhon, Head of the Department of Zoology, also addressed the students, stressing the importance of education in the fight against cancer.
As part of the programme, Avneet Kaur and Amritleen Kaur, final-year B.Tech Biotechnology students, delivered insightful seminars on the global and local impact of cancer. Following this, a PowerPoint presentation competition was held, where students showcased their knowledge and research on various aspects of cancer.
In the competition, Karmveer Kaur (B.Sc Medical, 3rd Semester) secured the 1st prize, while Arshpal Singh and Jaskirat Kaur (B.Sc Hons Agriculture) won the 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Monika Airi, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who expressed her gratitude to the faculty, students, and participants for their enthusiastic involvement in making the event a success.
