Talk held on recent advances in Algebra at Central university of Punjab

Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari organized an invited talk on “Recent Advances in Algebra”. The keynote speaker of this program was Prof. R.K. Sharma, Chair Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, IIT Delhi.
At the start Prof. Gauree Shankar, HoD, Dept. of Mathematics & Statistics welcomed the guests and put a light on the program theme. Dr. Ashok K. Pathak introduced the keynote speaker.
In his keynote address, Prof. R.K. Sharma mentioned that mathematics enters in our life from the time when we learn to speak and it remains with us throughout our life. He defined algebra is a part of mathematics which deals with symbols used to represent numbers and the rules for managing those symbols. He discussed various branches of algebra and stated that we use algebra in our daily life to calculate distance, the perimeter of an area, the volume of an object, cost estimate, time relationship and more. While discussing the applicability of Algebra into various professions, he asserted that algebra is used by Actuaries, Computer Programmers, Engineers, Air Traffic Controllers, Market Research Analyst, Architects, Economist, Geologist, Electricians and others professionals.
He also put a light on the applicability of Algebra in the field of Cryptography which is widely used in mobile calling, messaging, secure network communications, signal processing, authentication, digital signature, time stamping, electronic money transfer and others works. He motivated youngsters to develop specialized skills in algebra to enhance their career prospects.
Post lecture session, participants discussed their queries with the invited speaker during the interactive session. Towards the end Dr. Harmanpreet Singh Kapoor delivered Vote of Thanks CUPB faculty, research scholars and students participated in this program through online mode.
