Celebrating the 130th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar today, Paramjit Singh Kainth, President of The National Scheduled Castes Alliance offered his salutations to the great man, the father of the Indian Constitution at the Dr. Ambedkar Statue near Bus Stand, Patiala. “The first Dalit to enrol at Elphinstone College and the University of Bombay taking a degree in economics and political science. In 1913 he was awarded a Baroda State Scholarship and moved to Columbia University, New York, completing a masters in 1913 and a thesis, National Dividend of India-A Historic and Analytical Study in 1916. Dr. Ambedkar was, is and will remain the source of Inspiration for every Indian and especially for the Scheduled Castes community. His quest for equality and justice allowed millions of Indians to usher into an era full of opportunities after the Independence and has given a sense of pride to the Scheduled Castes community as someone to whom we look up to for inspiration. If it wasn’t for Dr. Ambedkar, our community would’ve still suffered the horrors of untouchability and social discrimination at every level. ‘Educate, Agitate, Organize’, this was the message of Dr. Ambedkar and this is what we live by.” said Kainth.
Criticizing the decision of the Shiromani Akali Dal to appoint a Scheduled Castes Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab if they manage to win the 2022 Elections, Kainth said, “This is a prime example of how SAD treats the Scheduled Castes community and its leaders. According to them the best that the SC community can get is a 2nd position in the government and that the Leaders from the community are not capable of leading this State. This is the elitist and exclusionist mentality at its full strength by the SAD which has indirectly stated that a SC will be not allowed to be the CM if SAD comes to power.”
“Punjab government especially has no grounds for commenting on anything related to the Scheduled Castes community. Their horrendous governance model and ineffective law & order situation in the State has made it impossible for the SC’s to grow and prosper in the State. Day by day we see rising cases of crimes of social boycott and caste based discrimination against the SC community. Little girls are murdered, somewhere a woman is raped and another place a boy is forced to drink urine, all are cases which happened against people belonging to the community in Punjab.” he added.
The season of selling lofty dreams to the SC community of Punjab has started – Kainth. “The time has come for the Scheduled Castes community to take a note of their massive 35% population in the State and become a force for their own benefit which has been neglected from decades by these Political parties ruled by Royals and Hereditary Political Scions. We must organize as Dr. Ambedkar wanted us to and take control of what is rightfully ours i.e. to lead Punjab and the community towards growth and prosperity.” said Kainth.
