With the filing of nominations are over, around 40 candidates are trying their luck from Patiala urban seat to go to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha as an elected representative. Final number of candidates will be cleared by February 4, 2022 evening as who will contest the polls on February 20,2022.
As per election commission total 59 candidates have applied for Patiala (Urban and Rural) , including the covering candidates of mainstream parties, namely aam admi party, Punjab Lok Congress, Congress and Shiromani akali dal (Badal).
February 4 is the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers and by then the covering candidates of these four mainstream parties’ nominees will withdraw their nomination papers. Interestingly no covering candidates have applied for rest of the parties except these four mainstream party candidates.
As per available information total 17 candidates have applied for Patiala (Urban) and 23 for Patiala (Rural) (actual numbers without candidates covering candidate)
Out of these 17 in Patiala (Urban) 10 filed their application as Independent candidates, namely Ravinder Singh, Jasbir Singh, Makhan Singh, jagdish Kumar, Davinder Singh, Jyoti Tiwari, Sonu, Prof Pankaj Mohindru, Gurmukh Singh.
In Patiala urban Capt Amarinder Singh has filed his nomination papers as Punjab Lok Congress party nominee, Vishnu Sharma as Congress , Ajitpal singh Kohli as aam admi party (AAP), Harpal Juneja as shiromani akali dal (Badal) as mainstream party candidates .
Naunihal singh as siromani akali da (Amritsar) , Yogesh Kumar as Jan Asra party, Paramjit Singh as Lok Insaf Party has also filed their papers from Patiala (Urban0
From Patiala (Rural) Nasib Singh, Rajeev Sharma, Poonam Sharma, Krishan kumar, jashandeep Singh, Rajiv Kumar babbar, Dharminder Singh, paramjit Kaur Bhullar, baljit Singh, Abhishek Singh, Shweta Jindal, Jasdeep Singh, Saurabh jain, Dalbir Singh, Tejwinderpal Singh Saini has filed their nomination papers as an Independent candidates.
Whereas Sanjeev Sharma Bittu has filed his nomination papers as Punjab Lok Congress, Mohit Mohindra as Congress, Jaspal singh as shiromani akali dal (Badal), Dr Balbir Singh as AAP candidate from mainstream parties.
Mohinderpal Singh as Shiromani akali dal (Amritsar), Harpreet kaur as Samajik Sangharsh party, Tejwinderpal singh as Peoples party of India-Democratic, Jasdev Singh as Insanyiat Lok Vikas party has also filed their papers from Patiala (Rural) as their representatives.
As per their affidavits by party nominees of Patiala (urban) Vishnu Sharma a class 9th and appeared in matriculation as a private candidate in 1968, Ajitpal Singh Kohli is MA (English), Harpal Juneja is BA, L.LB, Capt Amarinder is a NDA , IMA Doom pass out who later joined Indian Army. Similarly, as per their affidavits by party nominees of Patiala (Rural) Dr Balbir Singh of AAP is a doctor and M.S., Jaspal Singh of SAD is 10+2, Sanjeev Sharma of PLC is BA-IInd year, Mohit Mohindra is BA,L.LB.

Amongst others Mohinderpal Singh of SAD (Amritsar) is MA, Tejwinderpal Singh of PPI-Democratic is B.Tech, Harpreet Kaur of Samajik Sangharsh Party is MA in History, Punjabi, M.Phil in Punjabi, M.Ed, Diploma in Urdu, DCA, UGC (JRF),Paramjit Singh of Lok Insaf party is 10th, Nunihal Singh of SAD (Amritsar ) is middle standard, Yogesh Kumar of Jan Asra party is BA with English steno course from ITI and diploma in computers from TIET.
Tejwindepal Singh has filed as papers as an independent candidate as well as Peoples Party of India -Democratic representative.
