Jumbo size Punjab police top: 42 DGP, special DGPs, ADGPs; three officers promoted to ADGP rank

Even as the state police face a shortage at the bottom, Punjab has once again added more ADGPs to the rank to take the total to a record 28.

Whereas the non gazetted officers of Punjab police are waiting for their timely promotions.

Punjab government today issues promotion orders of three IPS officers to the rank of ADGP. Out of these 28 ADGPs, three officers namely Kapil Dev, Rajiv Ahir, PK Rai are on deputation to the Centre.

Those who promoted to the rank of ADGP are Nilabh Kishore, Shive Kumar Verma, Jaskaran Singh all are of 1998 batch officers.

Now, Punjab have Gaurav Yadav as DGP , VK Bhawra as DGP, chairman Punjab police housing corporation, 15 IPS Dinkar Gupta, Parbodh Kumar, Sanjeev Kalra, Parag Jain, SS Chuhan, Harpreet Sidhu, Kuldip Singh, Gurpreet Deo, Varinder kumar, Ishwar Singh, JK Jain, SK Asthana, Sashi Prabha Diwedi, RN Dhoke, Arpit Shukla as special DGPs.

Out of them DGP ranked officers Dinkar Gupta, Parag Jain, Harpreet Singh Sidhu are on central deputation.

Now, Punjab police have Naresh Kumar Arora, Ram singh, SS srivastava, PK Sinha, B Chandra Shekhar, AS Rai, V. Neeraja, Anita Punj, Kapil Dev, Parmod Ban, MF farooqui, Amit Prasad, G nageshwar Rao, Vibhu Raj, Rajiv Ahir, LK yadav, PK Rai, Naunihal Singh, Arun Pal , RK jaiswal, GS dhillon, Mohnish Chawla, SPS Parmar, AK Pandey, Nilabh Kishore, Shive kumar Verma and Jaskaran singh as ADGPs

IPS officers have a vertical tenure based promotion system in accordance with IPS cadre rules. Cadre management, however, varies from state to state. Anyone who has served 30, 25 and 18 years in service is eligible to become a DGP, ADGP and IG, respectively.

In Punjab, promotions are done promptly after a batch becomes eligible for a higher rank, where as some states with stricter cadre managements, promote officers only when a vacancy arises in the cadre posts.

Punjab police has yet to recruit the staff at NGO (Non gazette officer) at bottom level.
